County Champion: Yasmin Canning
๐ Meet our inspiring County Champion: Yasmin Canning from Drogheda, Co. Louth! ๐
Yasmin's journey with the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon began in 2011, driven by a powerful desire to make a difference. "My 1st time to run the mini marathon was in 2011. I wanted to run 10k without stopping to raise funds for the Irish cancer society as my Mam was battling cancer," Yasmin shares, reflecting on her initial motivation.
Tragically, Yasmin's mother lost her battle with cancer that July, marking a profound turning point in Yasmin's life. In the following year, Yasmin found solace and strength in joining her local running club, Drogheda & District Athletics. "This was the best decision as running has given me the mental strength to cope with everyday life struggles," Yasmin reflects, highlighting the transformative impact of running on her well-being.
In 2024, Yasmin's resolve to make a difference remains unwavering. "This year I am hoping to raise much-needed funds for my cousin who was involved in a life-altering accident in January this year," Yasmin reveals. Her cousin's paralysis from the neck down has ignited Yasmin's determination to support him in his rehabilitation journey towards walking again.
Yasmin's dedication to fitness and community support shines through her involvement in coaching C25K groups and assisting with juvenile coaching in her club. "I feel I would be a good representative for my county as I am always encouraging others to keep fit," Yasmin expresses, highlighting her commitment to inspiring others on their fitness journeys.
Yasminโs story exemplifies resilience, compassion, and a relentless drive to make a difference in the lives of others. Let's rally behind Yasmin as she continues to inspire her community and support her cousin's journey towards recovery.
Thank you, Yasmin, for your unwavering commitment and inspiring spirit. ๐
