Charity Spotlight: Laura Lynn
Who they are
LauraLynn is Ireland's only Children's Hospice providing hospice and palliative care and support for children with life limiting conditions and their families from all across Ireland.
LauraLynn care is provided free of charge for children and families. In 2021, LauraLynn received core statutory state funding which equated to approximately one third of the overall running costs for the hospice. LauraLynn relies primarily on fundraised income to fund its hospice services.
What LauraLynn do
LauraLynn, now in its 12th year, provides symptom management, planned short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care, as well as family supports and care to children with life-limiting conditions across Ireland.
LauraLynn currently provides care and supports to more than 460 families and children with life-limiting conditions. This figure also includes bereaved families who avail of supports and attend LauraLynn events and activities.
Care can be availed of in their specialised hospice in Leopardstown and from their new regional hub in Mallow, Co. Cork. Care can also be delivered in hospital, in the community, or in the family home, depending on the location and medical needs of the child and the family’s preference.
LauraLynn’s holistic approach to care ensures we support the whole family, enabling patients to be children and parents to have time to be Mums and Dads rather than full-time carers.
LauraLynn provides vital bereavement supports to families after they have lost a child.
LauraLynn also undertakes research into the relatively new area of children’s palliative care.
