Jenny's 10km For 10 Year Transplant Anniversary

In June 2019, it will be 10 years since my second kidney transplant donated from my brother, John.

To celebrate this 10 years milestone, and to show how organ donation can not only save but change lives, I will “attempt” to run my first (and probably last!) 10km run by participating in the Vhi women’s mini marathon. June 2nd also would have been my Dads 75th birthday. He passed away in 2003 having enjoyed an extra 16 years of life thanks to the kidney transplant he received.

My main goal is to encourage people to an carry organ donor card by raising awareness of how Organ Donation can save and dramatically improve the quality of lives for lucky recipients.  I have set up this justgiving page in case anyone would also like to donate to the Irish Kidney Association in my name.

Please have the chat with your loved ones letting them know your wishes and to keep a reminder of your decision visible by carrying the organ donor card and permitting Code 115 to be included on your driver's licence. You can also download the 'digital organ donor card' APP on your smartphone, free text the word 'Donor' to 50050 or go to https://ika.ie/get-a-donor-card/

There are approximately 550 people in Ireland awaiting life-saving heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants and thanks to the gift of organ donation, almost 4,000 transplanted people in Ireland are enjoying extended life including me!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
