#womenwithimpact - Amara, Sanctuary Runners

Over the past few weeks, we have been featuring some of the brilliant #WomenwithImpact who are taking part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon campaign this June, in our Every T-Shirt Tells A Story video series.

We are ending the series this week with Amara Onwuzulumba from Sanctuary Runners.

The Sanctuary Runners is a voluntary organisation with the aim of enabling Irish people to run alongside, and in solidarity with, those living in Direct Provision. The group has offered an opportunity for runners, both Irish and from Direct Provision centres, to get to know each other, share stories, relax and develop a team ethic as they run shoulder-to-shoulder, wearing blue Sanctuary Runners t-shirts.

When Amara came to Ireland last September, she already loved running, and found that it gave her a sense of joy and peace. After she arrived, Amara discovered the Sanctuary Runners, and enjoys the love, friendship and support that being part of the group offers. She runs with the group at parkrun in Corkagh Park most Saturday mornings, and will be taking part in her first Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon on June 2nd.
