Charity Spotlight: ISPCA
Working To Protect Animals In Ireland since 1947.
We’d like to know about your charity. Tell us who you are?
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is Ireland’s leading animal welfare charity, made possible by the kindness and dedication of passionate animal lovers across the country. Since 1949, the ISPCA has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals affected by cruelty, neglect, and abandonment—giving them the second chances they deserve.
When ISPCA Animal Welfare Inspectors rescue animals from heartbreaking situations, our expert team provides the care, rehabilitation, and love needed to help them heal before finding them safe and loving homes. But our mission goes beyond rescue. We advocate for stronger animal welfare laws, educate communities on responsible pet ownership, and work tirelessly to prevent cruelty before it happens.
Together, we can build a future where no animal suffers needlessly.
Why was this charity set up?
The ISPCA was established in 1949, by a group of committed volunteers from across Ireland. Since then, the ISPCA has worked locally and nationally to rescue, rehabilitate and responsibly re-home thousands of cruelly treated and neglected animals of all different species.
The Society is the umbrella organisation for 14 affiliated local animal welfare organisations and as such provides training and support to a dedicated and committed core of volunteers.
What does your charity do?
Together the ISPCA and our members help, rescue, treat and responsibly rehome tens of thousands of animals of all different species all over Ireland.
What does the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon mean for your charity?
Over the years, the VHI Mini Marathon has been a vital source of funding for the ISPCA, helping us continue our lifesaving work for animals in need. In recent years, this fundraising effort has received less focus, but our new team is committed to bringing it back stronger than ever.
Our goal is to raise €10,000 or more—an amount that will make a real and lasting difference in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals who need us most.
